"A wonderful and charming oil on canvas of a bashful serving girl offering up a tankard of ale to a huntsman outside an Inn. The painting is signed "Geo Morland 1791" and is mounted in a nice gilt frame. The painting has been professionally restored to an excellent condition. There is craquelure to the surface, which is stable and the painting has been gently cleaned repaired and re-varnished. Measurements: 21 inches by 17 inches framed. George Morland is probably one of the most famous 18th century British painters of animals, rustic scenes and working class rural 'characters' in history. A child genius, born in 1763, by the age of three is was already showing great talent as an artist, making wonderful chalk sketches, which were observed with great wonder. By the age of ten was made an honorary member of the Royal Academy of painters no less and exhibited there. By the age of 17 years he had gained a considerable reputation in the 18th century art world".
