Superb, original, large, watercolour, painted by the famous, Victorian artist - Paul Falconer Poole R.A. in 1843.Inside the painting the original inscription reads Gypsy girl. The painting is also known by the title, "Study of a girl at her toilet by a stream". It measures 28" by 23" framed. This stunningly beautiful painting, depicts a rustic beauty washing at a stream in a rural landscape and has been wonderfully painted by the artist, who has signed and dated the picture lower left.It is typical of Poole's genre works, which can be divided into two distinct categories, the idyllic and the dramatic.Paul Falconer Poole was an English subject, born in Bristol and self taught as an artist. However, his fine feeling for the application of colour, using Gouache and gum Arabic, his poetic sympathy for his subjects and the dramatic power he displays in his works, earned him high acclaim amongst his fellow artists.
