Tothill, who actively exhibited as a watercolourist painter between 1880 - 1885. The child featured is "Cicely", the daughter of Edward A. George Esq. and she has been beautifully painted against a delicate floral backdrop. This painting was exhibited at 'The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour' in 1884, the year it was painted. It is most certainly a most interesting and highly collectable 'exhibited' painting. The painting is housed in it's fine, original gilt gallery frame measuring 32 inches x 25 inches and still has the original Victorian glass it was exhibited in. Signed lower right. It retains the original exhibit label verso.
